You are planing your trip to Japan during the cherry blossom season? Than keep on reading. This article is about our favorite spots during cherry blossom season in Tokyo and nearby. If you also plan to visit Kyoto and Osaka, don’t miss our following blog posts.
The cherry blossom season is every year in japans spring. If you plan to visit Japan during this season you need to check the Sakura calendar as it can change from time to time. The cherry blossom trees bloom just for about 2 weeks. When the bloom opens it takes about one week until full bloom and from this point on it takes another week until they fall down.
In Tokyo there are a lot of parks and places you have to visit during the season.
Ueno Park is another famous place for Sakura located close to the Ueno Station. Here are about 800 cherry blossom trees and during the season you can see a lot of people doing a picknick under the trees. You can enjoy the full bloom for free as there is no entry fee.
Beautiful! But many people! You can rent a boat and have a beautiful view on the cherryblossom trees. You can rent a boat between Tuesday and Sunday. So don’t be there on a Monday – you will be disappointed. Opening hours are between 11 am and 4:30 pm, but check this before you plan to rent a boat. The entry fee is 200. yen. It is a very popular park, so we recommend you to be there early. In this area are more than 1100 cherry blossom trees and as there are different kind of trees you can enjoy the season for a very long time. (different kind of trees = different date of full bloom). You can easily access the park from Shinjuku station. Opening hours are between 9 am and 4 pm.
Sumida Park is very close to the Senso-Ji. In this park are about 800 cherry blossom trees and you can make some cool photos with the Tokyo Skytree. You won’t have to pay an entry fee.
This spot is just stunning. If you plan to make some pictures we highly recommend to come early in the morning, but this place is also very beautiful at night. Lucky you – no entry fee and you can enjoy a long romantic walk along the river.
One of our favorite spots so far. It is a cemetery and all those cherry blossom trees bloom around. Of course it is with out entry fee and there are also not many people at all.
A really nice park located in Shibuya. You will find here the Meiji-Shrine. The park is really big. So don’t miss to rent a bike a ride around.
Oh, damn. If you are lucky enough to see the Mount Fuji during cherry blossom season you should noooot miss that. We have been there a few weeks before the blooms opened. Hike up to the Chureito Pagoda and enjoy the view. This is insane and a MUST DO if you are there in time. We would also recommend to ride a bike at Lake Kawaguchi as there are also many cherry blossom trees. Read here how to get to Fujiyoshida.
You are not only in Tokyo for the cherry blossom spots, right? Than check out this blog post to get to know what you should not miss.
We were located in Ueno. Ueno is quite a nice place and also a nice place during Sakura as it is close to the famous Ueno Park. If you want to be closer to the city we would recommend Shibuya and Shinjuku as those places are really central. You are traveling on budget, check those here. We highly recommend capsule hostels if you want a real Japan feeling. If you are looking for a bit luxury you will find your right accomondation here. There are also several airbnbs in Japan.
