Colombo is next to Negombo for most of the tourist the lynchpin of a Sri Lanka tour.
The city is not very pretty, but big and there is enough to keep you busy.
We recommend to stay in Colombo for 2 nights or less. In this article, we want to give you some tips on what you can do on your arrival or shortly before departure. 🙂
To enjoy this incredibly stressful city, you should definitely visit the Pettah Market. That is the absolute stress, but the best way to get some of the busy impressions. Take care of your stuff.
The Pettah Floating Market is about 20 minutes by feet from the Pettah Market. Here are mostly local products sold. The location is quite nice to have some snack places to enjoy the “silence” after the Pettah Market.
Not far from Pettah Market is the Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque. The mosque is really amazing and one of the oldest in Colombo. In its red and white colors, it has made our heart beat twice as fast as we are from Cologne (Colors of 1. FC Köln).
Feels like a little oasis in busy Colombo. It is right next to the National Museum. Here you can have a nice picnic. The food for this you will find at small food stalls. 🙂
A bit cheesy, but definitely a must-see in Colombo. For little money you can take a lot of impressions. 🙂
The Lotus Tower is the highest self-supporting sculpture in Asia with a height of 350m. You will see it anyway. 😉
Download the PickMe app and take the TukTuk through Colombo – it’s not expensive and you get tons of impressions.
